The most basic of all craps bet is on the Pass Line, which is also known as 'right way'. Craps Payout Chart and Odds For Each Craps Bet. The craps payout chart below shows various payout statistics such as what kind of craps bets, true odds, payout odds and the total house edge after everything has been calculated through. Note that these payout odds in the chart listed below are not the same in every casino or on all craps. There are many different bets you can make on the craps table. This often confuses new players but in actual fact craps is not that complicated. In this section we outline all of the possible betting options and show you where those bets go on the table. The Craps Table. Below is an example of a craps table. With Craps, the only Player who must place a bet prior to the first roll of the game is the Shooter (or person who wants to roll the dice). To become eligible to become a Shooter, place a bet on the Pass Line or Don't Pass Bar.

Types of Craps Bets

This is the best bet in the casino and my personal favorite. The don't pass/come bet is used in conjunction with the don't pass line bet or don't come bar bet. Basically when you wager on the don't pass or come line, you can use this free odds bet after a point has been established in order to get paid true odds. I will explain the specifics of this bet below. This odds bet is the same for both the don't pass and don't come wagers.

Ruby fortune review. First of all, when you wager on the don't pass or don't come line, you are betting that the dice will land on a 2, 3, or 12 to win. You will lose if a 7 or 11 is rolled. The important thing to notice is that the number 7 comes up more frequently than any other number. In order to activate the odds bet, you need the shooter to roll one of the point numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10). Remember that the odds of rolling any point number is better than the odds combined of rolling a 7 or 11.

Once the point is established, a player may make bets in multiples of your original line bet such as 1x, 2x, or 3x. Note that in big casinos like Atlantic City and Vegas, players have the opportunities to wager 10x, 50x and even 100 times the original bet on the odds bet. The free odds bet pays out true odds. Yes, that actually means the house has no edge (0% edge). Though they still have an edge on your original line bet. The rule to remember is that the more money you wager in odds bet, the lower the house edge gets overall on your total bet.

The don't pass line has a 1.36% house edge. Adding on a don't pass odds bet will decrease that percentage even further. Note that you win both your don't pass odds bet and don't pass bet (or don't come odds bet and don't come bet) when the dealer rolls a 7 before the point number, which is more likely than the point number and benefits you even more. The numbers 6 and 8 pay out 6:5 odds, 5 and 9 pays out 3:2 odds, 4 and 10 pays out 2:1 odds or $2 for every $1 wagered.

I added a picture to make things a little clearer and I will explain it below. First I made a don't pass line bet and the shooter rolled a 10, which became the point number (indicated by the 'ON' disc located on 10). The dealer then moved my chips to the 'don't pass' area of the 10 section in the craps layout. I was then able to use the don't pass free odds in multiples of 1x, so I made an addition odds bet equal to my original bet, so there are two stacks of chips both worth $88 each. If the dealer rolls a 7 before a 10, I will win both bets. Recall that I will be paid 1:1 on the original don't pass line bet, plus 2:1 on my odds bet.

The don't pass line bet used with maximum don't pass odds bet is the absolute best bet you can make in craps or anywhere else in the casino! This has slightly better odds than even the regular pass line bet used with pass odds, so it gives you the best mathematical odds possible. In fact, the casino doesn't actually display the odds bet on the craps table layout and that's why it is sometimes known as the 'secret craps bet'.

Let me begin by apologizing to our beginner craps players. I pride myself on being a good teacher, but I overlooked the fact the I have not yet written an article dedicated to the free odds bet. I took it for granted that everyone understood what is mathematically the best bet in the game.

However, recently, I started seeing very basic questions about the free odds bet pop up on the RoadGambler YouTube channel.

So let's have a simple discussion about the free odds bet.

Also, the free odds are simply referred to as ‘odds'; so going forward, I will use the term ‘odds' in lieu of ‘free odds.

WHAT ARE THE FREE ODDS BET?

The odds bet is a bet that can only be made once the player has bet on the pass line or come bet.

It's mathematically the best bet on the table because the odds pay true odds. That means that, unlike almost every other bet in the casino, the house has no advantage.

Odds bets are usually capped. At most Las Vegas strip properties, the odds bet is capped at a maximum of 3x, 4x, and 5x.

For example, here is a table limit sign at a Las Vegas Strip casino.

Notice that the minimum bet on this table is $15. 3x, 4x, and 5x means that: if the point is 4 or 10, then the maximum odds are 3 times the pass line bet; if the point is 5 or 9, then the maximum odds are 4 times the pass line bet; and if the point is 6 or 8, the maximum odds allowed are 5 times the pass line.

Let's say that you make a $15 pass line bet. That means that in the above picture since the point is 8 (as marked by the white puck), you can bet $75 worth of odds.

Some casinos will allow more free odds. Notice the sign that says 100x. That means if you bet $5, you can bet up to $500 worth of odds.

WIN-LOSS CONDITIONS OF THE ODDS BET

The odds bet will win if the point assigned to that odds bet rolls before the 7 rolls.

For example, if the point is 8, and the 8 rolls before the 7 rolls, then the odds bet will win. If the 7 rolls before the 8 rolls, then the odds bet will lose.

Odds bets can also be wagered on Come bets after the Come bet point has been established. Be warned that typically if the bettor has a live come bet with odds, and the pass line has just won, then the next roll will be a come out roll for the pass line. In that case, the odds bet attached to the come bet will not be working unless the bettor declares the odds to be working.

HOW TO IDENTIFY AND MAKE THE ODDS BET

In the picture below, the two bets that are behind the pass line bet are the odds bet. To make the odds bet, you just position your chips in the area behind your pass line bet, AFTER THE POINT HAS ROLLED.

The most important thing to know about the odds bet is the payout.

Craps betting system. The following are the payouts for each point…

Point is 4 or 10

• Odds will pay 2-1.
• For example, if you bet $10 on the odds, you will be paid $20

Point is 5 or 9

• Odds will pay 3-2.
• For example, if you bet $10 on the odds, you will be paid $15.
• When betting odds on the 5 or 9, always make sure that you bet in even dollar increments. For example, if you bet $5, you will be penalized. True odds payout would be $7.50, but since most casinos do not have 50 cent chips, the casino will round down and pay $7.

• Odds will pay 6-5.
• For example, if you bet $10 on the odds, you will be paid $12.
• Always bet in $5 increments, or else you will be penalized. The casino will round down from the true odds payout.

FINAL ADVICE

When in doubt about how much to bet, follow this one simple rule about how much to bet on free odds: Bet in $10 increments.

If you bet in $10 increments, you will always have the correct odds bet. Make sure that the $10 increment does not go over the maximum odds allowed.
